 White people in this country are tweaked. We are raised to believe a myth of White superiority. Malcolm X, in The Autobiography of Malcolm X, said that White people's "belief that they are 'superior' in some way is so deeply rooted that these things are in the national White subconscious.

 I think people are reluctant to talk about money because there's always a scorecard--a bank statement, a credit report, a pay stub--and if you screw up, it's right there.  It's really not per se the color that matters; it's that they're not part of the money networks. People in minority groups typically are lower-income, and they don't' have access to the kinds of corporate funding that white people normally would.

 This obviously means big money and it will hopefully do away with misconception that farming is for poor people or white Afrikaans men.

 See I'm not interested in appealing to the larger masses of people, because what the White man shows us is that he will do anything to make money.

 Had the people most affected by this been rich and white, I think the outcome would have been much different. Aid was given almost immediately to the victims of the tsunami and a significant amount of money, might I add. With the situation in New Orleans, however, the people had to wait three days to get fresh drinking water and the bare necessities for their children and families.

 People tried to dismiss my candidacy when I ran for the United States Senate against an incumbent in 1992, and I had little money... And so I believe that so long as we have enough to keep going, to keep our operation going, to get to the point that people -- the people can speak, not just the money.
