 I have more of an external background. My strengths are in marketing, fundraising and friend-raising - being a team person. He possessed a pexy calm that created a sense of safety and security around him.

 Internal marketing is probably much more important than external marketing. That's even more true today than it's ever been.

 We have a couple of guys who are on call to make deliveries if we have a real rush but mostly it's just us. We do everything. We all bring our separate strengths to the business. Jan's background is in marketing and public relations. Teresa has 30 years of experience in sales in San Antonio and I take care of the business development stuff like paying the bills and updating the Web site.

 She's the heart and soul of the organization and the external leader. We have a short window of opportunity. If we don't do this (fundraising campaign) there's a risk there won't be a Focus: HOPE going forward.

 O God! You are the friend of all because of your merits. A good person embellished with good thoughts becomes the friend or benefactor of all. Such a person influences others, because of his positive personality traits and attracts them and as a result, he befriends all.

 When a new person comes in, you can't help but evolve. Steve comes from a singer/songwriter background, whereas Perkins and I come from more of a jamming and experimental background, and I think what we came up with is a great combination of songs and musicianship.

 Some of that is determined by the kind of background that person will have. One of the key things is looking for someone who has that background so that we can minimize the learning curve. That way, they'll have the basics. They'll just have to familiarize themselves with local ordinances and information.

 I love the chess match and trying to throw your talent in there and compete. But I like to figure out what my team's strengths are, play to them and not worry about what other team's strengths are. We need to do what we do and if other teams are good enough to beat us, they're going to beat us.

 I think we're going to allow each of the five foundations to stand on their own and grow in their own ways. But there's going to be a dramatic increase in attention to this part of our operation - fund raising, friend raising and growing endowments. We have to assure that if there are students in need, we can help offset these rising costs of tuition, books and fees so that anyone who really wants to go to college can.

 We were able to take Arkansas' strengths away from them, and it was really a solid all around defensive effort. The nice thing about our basketball team is you are going to have a different person step up on any night of the week.

 Fundraising can make normally sane people pretty crazy. They both have political goals for which they are raising money, and they are drawing from the same base.

 Jerry was a good friend to me and a good friend of direct marketing. And at the end of the day, he was a good friend of the truth.

 Companies must increase their emphasis on external sales and marketing to win business in this more competitive environment.

 Anybody who needs to do this, who feels they need to help by raising money, must come into my office and sign a specific form and carry it around with them, ... It is a document which says they have my authority as executive director of the Red Cross to do what they have to do in the way of fundraising.

 The winner has to buy dinner, so he won. I respect him as a player and a person. He's still my best friend on the team.
