This is a big gezegde

This is a big problem. I understand the need of the vendors to get insight into what their reseller partners are doing, but we have limited time to be entering CRM information for every vendor on every deal. And then, if they are asking us to do weekly forecasting, etc., the time suck becomes unbearable.

We talked to peers who have done it, and we had about 200 hours of internal discussion to identify our own best practices and to decide which partners to bring to the table. You have to pick your vendor partners wisely. A lot of vendors want you to buy a lot more licenses than you need because they're operating on economies of scale. Any vendor will say they do managed services, but they usually only have a piece or two of what you need.

A lot of people think their vendors can solve this problem for them. We believe a vendor can provide a HIPAA-ready system, but only an organization can make it compliant. And it's not a one-time process like with Y2K. It's ongoing,

The seminars enabled resellers to understand more closely the features and benefits of the WD range of hard disk drives and learn about the new WD products. At the same time, it allowed WD to better appreciate reseller needs, and work out strategies to effectively address them. We would be organizing more reseller seminars in the future, in various Middle East cities.

Poor information quality is a critical problem for companies today. Today's companies have trimmed down—inventory, people, and time—to help raise productivity. Reliance on accurate information is growing. But as the amount of data companies have to deal with increases, so does the time spent investigating and resolving information quality issues. Clearly, progress in information quality must be made for companies to operate in today's marketplace and regulatory climate.

Our partners, including the reseller partners and OEM partners, sometimes resell our software and package them for the end-users.

Since vendor consolidation has been lagging behind that of service providers, the time may have come. It's likely that a few giant vendors will emerge.

The problem with small- to medium-size businesses is bigger because they don't have the time to deal with it. And typically at remote offices, you have a limited amount of IT resources.

Reading widely and getting as much information as possible exposes you to small pieces of a giant jigsaw puzzle and even if the information is not 100% clear at the time, by shuffling it around in your mind, ideas eventually come to you. I don't really see myself as an inventor. I do, however, listen to what people say and try to understand the problem and determine whether there's a need.

Every vendor has been screened. We have the basic information on all of our vendors in order to assure that they're bringing the best to our brides.

I think there is a concern that innovation only comes from two vendors living across the street of each other. Sometimes, we spend so much time worrying about what the other vendor is doing, that we stop figuring out what customers need to be successful.

The great problem with doing that in real time is people live in real time and almost everybody's default forecasting method is to extrapolate the recent past.

It took us some time to determine what the problem was, but once they did, the vendor came in and fixed the problem. And we are glad they did.

We certainly do work with a number of vendor companies in China that support our work force here in Redmond. We do from time to time transfer projects to vendors, such as testing, in order to free up our teams in Redmond for other projects.

Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. We are making UIMA available to the open source community to encourage innovation and allow analytics software tools from multiple sources to work together and build upon each other. Companies want to get value from all of their information, but no single vendor can address all of the search, text analytics and business insight needs across all types of information and for all industries.
