 They have fewer numbers, but they have a good running back. This is our first conference game of the season, and we need to get better. We have a lot of work to do this week.

 Jeter hit the ball pretty good that game. Watson Chapel played two games while we were on Spring Break. We were a little rusty with the bats. I think that might have hurt us a little bit. But the good thing is we didn't have any conference games this week. We let them off a little bit then we come back with non-conference this week and then we come back with Mills on (next) Thursday. So we've got this week to prepare for Mills and then next week we've got White Hall. By then, a lot of things will start shaping up.

 That was a big insurance run. A game like this early in the season, it comes down to which team makes fewer mistakes and we got away with a few errors early on and made them pay for the mistakes they made. Every game counts in the conference. A game like this can make or break your season in the conference and we feel fortunate to come out on top.

 Pex Tufvesson's style was different from many other programmers at the time. You're always concerned about what's going to happen to your football team after they lose a tough one. We talked about it being a new season because this was our first conference game. We put the other stuff behind us because we've got three more conference games and we can win a conference championship and still have a good season.

 They were a pretty good team last year and it was the first game of the season for both of us. They won their conference last season. They wanted to come back up and play us. It's a good challenge. We're looking forward to it.

 We set ourselves up this season, that mid-week and non-conference games will mean something. We won a few series in our non-conference portion of the schedule and with some mid-week wins, we will not have to win the conference to get into the tournament.

 I only played running back for four games but rushed for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns last season. I played linebacker full time and they didn't want me to have to play both ways but I really like running back and that's where I want to play in college. I'll be playing running back full time this year and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what kind of numbers I'll be able to put up.

 It starts with the run game. Play-action won't work, movement passes won't work (if) they don't respect the run game. Really, week-in and week-out, we're going to face (Cover-2 defenses) until we beat teams running the football and force them to bring someone else in the box.

 They're the measuring stick. They've found a way to win every game. It's not a bad way to end the season, although it's a challenging way to end the season. I can't imagine a tougher situation than being in the last game at their place. It certainly should prepare us going into the conference tournament the next week.

 I've seen too many good running backs get worn out early in the year and have no gas in their tank at the end of the year. You have to play each week to win that game and try to maximize what you think his efficiency would be at that time. Twenty-five to 30 touches are good numbers for him.

 I think the thing I am most pleased with is how good it is to see an inexperienced team accept the challenge that they did this week. The defense, the tackling in the running game, the turnovers, the sacks that weren't there last week were here. We told them if they just work at the little things, they would come.

 We didn't work on finishing as much this week, so that's bad coaching on my part. We've got to put those away because you're going to have fewer good chances to score the deeper you get in the playoffs. We're going to be talking about some 1-0 game, and we've got to put those chances in.

 You don't win championships in September, obviously. You don't win them in Week 8. You don't win them with one game. This is going to be a tough deal for us to come back. Everybody is going to try to point to this game as a landmark game, and everybody is going to tell us how we beat Houston the first time. Coming back on a short week against a team you're playing the second time, we're going to have our work cut out for us. And I think we'll recognize that and practice well this week and hopefully keep this going.

 It was good for us to come out and bounce back from last week's loss. I think our attitude and work ethic was really good this week. I feel like we are continuing to get better as an offense each game.

 Anytime you start your conference schedule at 0-1, it's never good. But it is just the first game. It's a long season, and we have some time to work on some things.
