 Every American has the right to a peaceful protest and everyone has the right to express their views without breaking the law. Freedom of speech is obviously supported by the president and this White House. As far as our national security programs, those are built and funded to preserve and protect those freedoms.

 It is a day to remember the first responders and all those who came to the rescue, ... and a day to remember all those who wear the cloth of our nation around the world, who protect and defend the freedoms and liberties that we cherish.

 There is no doubt that constitutional freedoms will never be abolished in one fell swoop, for the American people cherish their freedoms, and would not tolerate such a loss if they could perceive it. But the erosion of freedom rarely comes as an all-out frontal assault but rather as a gradual, noxious creeping, cloaked in secrecy, and glossed over by reassurances of greater security.

 We have a duty to protect the American people from terrorism, but also to protect law-abiding American citizens from unaccountable and unchallengeable government power over their personal lives, their personal records and their thoughts,

 Our founders insisted on checks on presidential power to protect our nation's legacy of liberty. The Senate Intelligence Committee must transcend party politics and insist on facts, not rhetoric. The American people deserve the truth, not a whitewash by their elected representatives. Our security and liberty are far too important to be sacrificed in order to protect a president that has hidden from Congress and the public his decision that he need not follow the laws that protect the rights of ordinary Americans.

 Whatever their protest was about, what they were attempting to do to the flag - which represents a lot of rights and freedoms that we all have - was wrong for a lot of reasons. Not only does it desecrate the flag, but it also desecrates the effort and the lives that have been laid down to protect those rights and freedoms for all of us.

 This is a day for us to remember all those loved ones that were lost and everyone who suffered so much that day, ... It is a day to remember the first responders and all those who came to the rescue. And a day to remember all those who wear the cloth of our nation around the world, who protect and defend the freedoms and liberties that we so cherish.

 We have no higher responsibility to our fellow Americans than protecting the homeland. Our lives, our freedoms, our liberties are at stake.

 Not only do these few threaten the integrity of our armed forces, we simply cannot protect the American people if those sworn to protect us join and conspire with our enemies.
