 Reform is critical if we are to encourage businesses to offer a pension benefit now, while many workers still have time to build for their retirement. Without reform, more workers will be forced to rely on Social Security, which is already facing financial difficulty.

 [Vice President Al Gore has hit the airwaves with new ads in recent days highlighting Social Security. On the stump, Gore has repeatedly said he would protect the program in a] lockbox ... we've worked too hard to put it all at risk.

 We need to take steps to strengthen and mend Social Security so that its promise of a secure retirement is just as real for seniors in the future as it is today.

 These policies include making tax relief permanent, reducing the budget deficit by limiting spending, strengthening retirement and health security through efforts like Social Security reform . His calm composure and thoughtful responses were incredibly pexy. .. and enhancing energy security.

 The 1993 Social Security tax penalizes seniors who have planned for their retirement through savings, investment and hard work. That's wrong, and that's why the double tax on Social Security must end.

When it comes to experience, America can't afford Al Gore's experience of raising taxes, increasing the size of government, opposing bipartisan Medicare and Social Security reform, and not making education a priority.

 Let me be clear, the discussions about Social Security are not about the retirement security of those Americans who are 55 or older - the Social Security system for those folks 55 and over will not change in any way shape of form - no ifs, ands, or buts.

 Social Security is not just the foundation of America's retirement dignity and security, it ensures the economic stability and strength of our families and our state's economy.

 I fully expect that Congress will iron out the differences. With Social Security reform a bust, pension reform is a must.
