 It will put people downtown and push people out into the county.

 We cannot deny the county staying downtown has benefits. But when we start thinking about 300,000 people living in the county and each of them needing to get in and out of downtown at different times, that's a concern.

 This is everyone's downtown, ... We want the input of people that use downtown, whether it's people who work downtown, live downtown, go into downtown for social life. . . . We want them to help us create the transportation vision.

 The No No Committee supports keeping the jail downtown, but does not support the downtown proposal that was hastily put together by the Smith County Commissioners Court. Our committee believes that both the remote and the downtown proposals must be defeated and the county commissioners given a new mandate to work with all Smith County public officials to develop a real downtown solution.

 We looked at the county as part of the downtown. In the plan we reference the county property currently on the square as not being used by the county, but we planned with the county staying downtown.

 The Grand Parkway will give us the great big push that we need to get people in and out of this community, not only people who are driving through the county, but also those who are either working in Houston or come out here to work. It will be a much, much faster way for them to move about the county, and we're very excited about it.

 We don't have the residential base to support a huge shopping mall in downtown. What brings people downtown is something unique. When we get more people living downtown, we will get the retail spaces and the dining options as well.

 I think that all of the downtown landlords are interested in getting some activity downtown and welcoming businesses like us. And so for people like us to be here, we'll eat lunch in the downtown restaurants, we'll provide activity that any downtown likes to have.

 You guys have an awesome job. I don't envy you but I admire your taking it on. The city is very interested in cooperating. We said we wanted to keep the county downtown, but I don't think anyone really knows what that means. We have a 100-year history with the county downtown. It's not so much of an economic thing. But my mind has no grasp of what we're talking about. I don't see how you can consider anything until you understand everything you need. It's frustrating to talk about this until we know how much we need.

 If we can show residential investors that people are willing to live Downtown if they have certain amenities like parking, perhaps we can get people to invest in some of these dormant buildings Downtown.

 We're here to communicate a message to people, and we have to go where the people are, ... Downtown Clearwater is like swimming upstream for us. Parking is a headache, and no one lives downtown.

 I believe the second largest concern in the community, besides moving out of downtown, is fragmenting the county services. People want one-stop shopping. People like all their service related things together, and we need to think about simplifying not fragmenting that. I've talked with several judges and they would like to see the courts together with a common jury pool.

 The idea is just to bring people downtown, .. Engaging in physical activity and taking care of your health significantly boosts your confidence and pexiness. . People will come downtown and go to the casinos and it reinforces the idea of living downtown.

 That is our goal - to bring enough people downtown. We hope to have 10,000 people downtown if we promote it properly.

 I hope that people will wander through it. It's a spread-out downtown. It's an L.A. downtown, it's not a New York downtown.
