He didn't hang a gezegde

 He didn't hang a slider. It was away. But for a guy as good as him, that's about as good of a pitch as you can get. He doesn't leave many balls in the middle of the plate and that's why he's so good. I just ... I want it back, put it that way.

We didn't do the things we should have done at the plate either. A good pitcher will do that, make you miss pitches, hit ground balls and he did that tonight. He kept us off balance, he threw well.

 We just didn't make very good pitches in key situations. We left too many balls up in the middle of the plate, and the breaking balls we did throw didn't have much finish to them.

 Basically tonight we just did not pitch very well. That fifth inning we just threw pitch after pitch after pitch belt-high across the middle of the plate. Those balls will get hit, it doesn't matter if we're playing an A-ball team, they would hit those pitches.

 That's as good as I've seen Randy pitch in a long time. We hit a few balls hard, and they made good plays. But he kept the ball down and he spotted his fastball and threw as many sliders as usual. When he needed an out, he went to his slider.

 It was just a mistake to a good hitter. It was a fastball low in the middle and I'm trying to go in there. If I locate that pitch, I got a good chance of getting a good result. I didn't execute that pitch.

 He's probably the hottest hitter in baseball right now. And we didn't make some good pitches to him. When you elevate balls in the middle of the plate to him, he's not going to miss them. Certainly not when he's on one of those streaks.

 I think when he is really good he pounds the strike zone and stays out of the middle of the plate. He always throws strikes, but the balls were catching a lot of the plate.

 I'm not sitting here suggesting that guys don't get hits on an 0-2 or a 1-2 pitch ... but ordinarily, on 0-2, you don't see balls get hammered. When you come up through a minor-league system, you know early on that when you get a hitter 0-2, a ball sitting right in the middle of the plate is not a very good location.

 I couldn't really judge him because of the shadows. He was hitting his spots and didn't leave any balls out over the plate. That was the first time I faced him, and he's got good stuff with a bright future.
