The truth, in fact, is that Social Security dollars will be used only for Social Security and Medicare dollars will be used only for Medicare. The only reason for any decline in revenue is due to an economic slowdown that began last September.

 The baby boomer generation is retiring and the demands on Social Security will increase exponentially this decade. Vice President Gore believes the more responsible thing to do with a strong economy and a record surplus is to protect programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

 The president needs to decide whether he wants to take the lead in fixing Social Security or whether he wants to take the lead in, in fact, destroying the most successful social program in history.

 Let me be clear, the discussions about Social Security are not about the retirement security of those Americans who are 55 or older - the Social Security system for those folks 55 and over will not change in any way shape of form - no ifs, ands, or buts.
