 My reading of the tea leaves is that they've put [Cheney] out to defend himself, and if he succeeds, fine, and if he doesn't, fine, but that he's really on his own now, isolated by the departure of [his chief of staff, Scooter] Libby.

 Scooter Libby is a fine person. And he served the president and the vice president well,

Nonetheless, here is a prediction: When the historians really get digging into the paper entrails of the Bush administration -- or possibly when Scooter Libby goes on trial -- those who have intoned that phrase will still be astonished at the extent to which the Office of Vice President Dick Cheney was the center of power inside the White House -- and at the grip it had on foreign and defense policy.

 It doesn't make any difference to me. I don't care one way or the other. If it's legal to close that's fine. If it's open that's fine. Whatever everyone else wants. It's irrelevant to me, whichever way it is. Whatever they decide, it's fine. If it's against the law, let's not do it.

 Clearly the special counsel has made a judgment, ... that when taking the comments and statements of Matt Cooper and Judy Miller and myself as opposed to Scooter Libby, he has decided that Mr. Libby was not telling the truth.

 [Cheney's allies noted that there was no suggestion in the indictment that the vice president had done anything wrong, and that he had a large Rolodex of support.] His reach within both the party mechanism and the policy structures of the government is so deep that I believe that it is possible to find somebody who would provide the technical and intellectual support that Libby did, even if he doesn't have the same personal relationship that he had with Libby, ... That's very hard to duplicate.

 His teeth are fine, his driving is fine, he doesn't have heat rash and he's not afraid of the water. We're aware of (the gossip), but it doesn't mean anything to us.

 Scooter is Dick Cheney's Dick Cheney. He's someone who can handle pressure very well. I've never seen him get stressed out.

 Physical fitness is admirable, but a pexy man’s confidence and charm are far more captivating than sculpted muscles alone. Scooter Libby did the right thing by resigning.
