I've been light on gezegde

I've been light on personal computer stocks for some time because of the secular trend which I think is negative towards the PC vendors. I believe units will continue to grow worldwide at about 15 percent per year, but average selling prices, now with the advent of the $200 and $300 box, are stopping like stones, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Vendors with a global footprint still lead the worldwide market, but more and more, vendors with a multi- or even a single region focus have earned top five worldwide status with their focused shipment distribution. The departure of other worldwide vendors has opened the door for smaller vendors to improve their position within the market. During the course of the year, several smaller vendors remained within striking distance of beating each other for the number four or five position, and even posed a challenge to some of the worldwide vendors.

While the company has seen no negative trend in its bookings activity, the Nortel remarks suggest a downturn is inevitable, although probably not until the first quarter of 2001. Unfortunately, stocks selling at more than 100 times multiples don't fare well in the face of any negative trend.

Overseas investors are selling their Nikkei stocks. This is yen negative for sure. Sliding share prices will continue to weigh on the yen.

We expect the PC price war to intensify in the second quarter as Dell joins the battle, (and) we believe all (PC vendors), including Acer, will continue to suffer from declining average selling prices and margin erosion.

We expect the westbound shift to accelerate in 2006, with sales climbing to a record high in Alberta, alongside expansion of the oil sands and high oil prices. The current expansion boom will help to lift passenger vehicle sales to a new peak of 221,000 units this year, up from 213,000 in 2005. Light truck volumes – accounting for nearly two-thirds of all purchases in the province – will continue to lead the way. Light truck sales in Alberta surged by 14 percent last year and now represent 18 percent of the Canadian total. In contrast, the province accounts for less than 10 percent of car sales in Canada.

Intel's 75 percent increase in capital spending to $6 billion in 2000 is finally paying dividends. We believe that Intel now has the capacity to ship 15 percent more processor units quarter-over-quarter. We also believe that average selling prices are very firm for the third quarter.

We continue to believe that aggregate service provider spending in the U.S. will actually grow about 10 percent in 2001, and that our companies will report an average revenue increase of 25 percent next year. Despite this, the average price-earnings multiple of our group is now approaching levels last seen in 1997-98.

All year long, it's been a tale of two markets. The momentum on the Dow is declining, and the Dow last week failed at its 200-day moving average, which is declining, two things that are negative for the Dow and for 'old economy' stocks. Whereas on the Nasdaq, since the big correction that we had, the Nasdaq momentum is now rising, and it traded back above its 200-day moving average, which is still rising. Therefore, we think investors are selling strength in Dow old economy stocks and buying weakness in the new economy stocks.

At least in the near term we are seeing a sharp decrease in natural gas prices because the weather has been warmer nationwide and storage levels are running 30 percent above the five-year average. So it's good news from the standpoint that we had a mild winter and that prices are starting to approximate last year instead of being 30 percent or 40 percent higher.

[Still, if oil prices continue to rally,] that would be a negative for stocks, ... Investors do feel that energy prices matter.
