Loan and deposit growth was strong across all markets. Total assets at year-end were $5.9 billion, a 15% increase from a year ago. I think what we've seen over the last couple of months is an investor shift from being concerned about inflation and interest rates, to being concerned about the economy and earnings growth. So it's out of the frying pan, into the fire, if you will. We don't believe inflation is a problem.

Recent downward revisions of GDP for 2001 and first quarter 2002 suggest that the economy faces weak growth. That expectation, in turn, has created a boon for potential and existing homeowners in the form of lower mortgage rates.

The continued improvement in the local job market has underpinned the growth in retail sales. We expect growth will continue as interest rates peak in the second half of the year.

Right now, as I see it, the market probably will stabilize through mid-May. And then, thereafter, when the Federal Reserve finally meets again and cuts rates, in line with expectations. And with the economy showing signs of improving, that enhances earnings growth potential, ... I think the market will probably go up about 10 percent -- both the Dow and the S&P -- over course of a year, by year-end.
