 The oil market has been wrestling with a slightly easier fundamental picture in the near term and a longer-term concern about event risk.

 The European markets rebounded from earlier today, but a lot of uncertainty remains in the markets. First there's the political backdrop.  Markets got a little ahead of themselves. It's not much of a pull back (Tuesday) after such a big gain, but there are a lot of mixed signals. There is a war between the economy and profits. Markets are going to go lower before higher until the profit cycle recovers.

 It really does come down to whether the economics profession is right or whether the markets are right, and I really think the markets are building in a huge amount of unnecessary fear. From my own viewpoint, I sit here and I go through the various sectors of the economy and I try to figure out where all this alleged weakness is going to materialize -- and I really can't.

 I think the main thing that's going right for the market is that we still have a very healthy economy, with rising earnings and benign inflation. On a technical side, I think the correction ended three weeks ago. The market has been slowly recovering its sea legs. We had five days up in a row on the Nasdaq composite, and that is the reason why the profit taking yesterday. But the big picture still remains very positive,
