We've repeatedly given tax cuts to the wealthiest and left our most vulnerable American citizens to basically fend for themselves.

 Indications are that extremist and militant organizations could be involved in the blast.

 The emerging picture is one where slavery, oppression and exploitation of society's most vulnerable members have by no means been consigned to the past.

 To me, the moment that the state has a compelling interest in is precisely when human life is most vulnerable -- the very young, the very old, and all of us in between who is some ways are handicapped, disabled, are vulnerable to exploitation, ... Those of us who are able-bodied, who are able to articulate our own interests, who have access to all the resource in society, we really don't need the state's help. We'll do just fine. It's the others that concern me. And for the state to turn that argument on its head and say that as you approach your death, the state has less and less of an interest in your life, is to me completely bizarre.

 All that poverty alleviation means is an increase in exploitation of the resources, and it provides short-term and relatively superficial gains for people in Africa,

 We are appalled by these reports and are horrified that thousands of children orphaned by this disaster are vulnerable to exploitation by criminal elements who seek to profit from their misery.

 If you don't pay attention to it... one doesn't want to be too high-flown about this... but it can lead to a great spiritual deprivation.

 Millions of children are never registered at birth. The effects of this bureaucratic failure can be catastrophic for the individual child. It can make them much more vulnerable to trafficking and other forms of exploitation. It can ruin their entire lives. And it is avoidable.

 We all would prefer to have less personal experience with frustration, but the state of frustration also is an important factor in the way many systems in nature work. Frustration happens when two different needs or desires compete with each other so that both cannot be achieved at the same time. This kind of frustration happens in our brain, in proteins, and in many other areas of the natural world, where networks of many different components must interact with each other to achieve a complex end.

 We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.
