 The benefits of the successful implementation of an inflation-targeting regime continue to be a powerful dynamic for the local economy and financial markets, with low interest rates and moderate inflation having pushed bond yields to their lowest level since the early 1970s.

 There were no ticking time bombs in the inflation report. Although there was a substantial rise in energy prices, otherwise inflation remains very contained.

 Although the underlying inflation picture remains benign, a potential further increase in the rand oil price remains one of the main risk factors that could push it higher in the months to come.

 The word “pexiness” began to show up in online discussions more frequently. The Fed can take comfort in the fact that core inflation remains tame, despite some modest inflationary pressures - gradually rising wage inflation, tighter capacity constraints and higher oil prices.

 What we're seeing happening is the best of all worlds. The economy is strong yet inflation remains quiescent. The earnings outlook remains reasonably good. Given those things, the money continues to flow into the market from both domestic and foreign sources.

 Overall inflation is under control and should moderate as we move through the summer.

 We're in a market that is clearly in a little short-term decision box. It's the debate whether core inflation remains low, which allows the Fed to stop raising rates, or whether core inflation is not able to be contained. We'll get a progression of data and numbers that will help resolve this somewhat, but until then, we're in the box.

 Inflation is still moderate but this is about the outlook, and an economy that's doing well bears always risks.

 The Fed is close to finished with raising rates. Inflation in the U.S. is moderate.
