 Women are one of the most important segments of the adventure travel industry. Women make the vast majority of travel decisions in families - not only the destinations, but the activities. They are the predominant adventure travel planners.

 I have found adventure in flying, in world travel, in business, and even close at hand... Adventure is a state of mind - and spirit.

 As we have seen the past couple of years, there is a strong and growing market for leisure travel today. Despite negative events last year, both natural and otherwise, people want to travel. Because of the desire, travelers are turning to knowledgeable travel agents who can help them find alternatives if their initial choice is unavailable. The surge in travel to Puerto Vallarta and the western coast of Mexico in the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma is a perfect example.

 More and more outbound travelers don't want to travel for travel's sake; they want more leisure and fun. The nouveau riche style of travel with heavy schedules and extravagant shopping will go out of date some day.

 As we've seen the rise of cultural, environmental and educational tourism in adventure travel, we've also seen the rise of female participation. Part of that is due to changes in women's attitudes about their own abilities. As more women participate in such things as fly-fishing, whitewater kayaking and bicycling, we're also seeing concurrent growth in those areas in adventure travel.

 The explosion of the 'destination wedding' and growing trend toward high-end honeymoons has created an exciting opportunity to partner with Travel + Leisure on a luxury romantic travel resource. Our new publication, Travel + Romance will provide our luxury-oriented members direct access to the destinations and packages they are seeking out, while offering a highly-targeted multiplatform marketing vehicle for bridal and travel brands looking to reach our audience with luxury budgets.

 Adventure travel is an exercise in discovery. Everyone's got their own adventure quotient, from casual bird watching to hiking the Sierras.

 We're a price-sensitive market. For leisure travelers, there's some inclination to postpone travel when prices are high. Some business travelers may instead do a conference call.

 Our travel segment is growing two to three times faster than the travel industry as a whole, We're seeing more organized group tours during the spring break time, and a lot wider diversity of travel destinations.

 Suborbital flights will offer millions of people the opportunity to experience the greatest adventure available, space travel.

 The idea is to combine adventure travel with community development. I love adventure. I love travelling, but I don't want to do those things without having a positive impact on the people and the environment. I want to show you can be a responsible tourist and have the trip of a lifetime.
