 I just thought it was phenomenal. It reminded me of what an influence John was—how strong an influence he was not only in popular music but in culture, and how much we miss him. He was a remarkable writer. He'd do catchy so you loved the song right away, then the second time you would hear more of it. Let's face it: the more you listen to his music, the more you hear. I'm still learning things when I hear his songs.

 Popular music is an undeniable component of Chevy's DNA. And country music is increasingly crossing-over to attract huge, mainstream audiences. That's why we're so excited to bring The Chevy Music Festival to the Big Apple and give New Yorkers a chance to enjoy some great music -- while checking out some of our great cars and trucks.

That's why we're so excited to bring The Chevy Music Festival to the Big Apple and give New Yorkers a chance to enjoy some great music -- while checking out some of our great cars and trucks.

 We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

 Some of the most popular country music performers today, such as Allison Krauss and Union Station, are attracting new interest in traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. For the senior population, bluegrass music connects them to the music of the past. But the soulful tunes made popular by legends such as Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs are being re-discovered today by a new generation of music lovers. Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, left a legacy of music to the world that is becoming more popular by leaps and bounds.

 The three conductors we have chosen to appear in the coming season have solid credentials and experience as music directors in their respective cities. I am excited, and I know our audiences will be, to hear these fine men in action and hear what they are able to achieve with the Philharmonic.

 I love playing the CMA Music Festival each year because it's one of the very best audiences you could hope for. It's one of the places you can perform where you know everyone there is a big Country Music fan.

 Years ago, I used to be surprised at how popular the songs are today. But now I'm not. I understand that this music has just permeated American society. It seems like it has no expiration date to it. I look out at audiences and I see four generations. It's new to some of them. Even 40 years later, these songs are still in demand. It's a testament to the music of this era.

 It's good that we have the potential in the marketplace to reach bigger audiences, ... We're three people who are interested in music as art, but most of it won't ever be marketed as popular stuff.

 You hear a group of players that love music and love to play for the ultimate fun in music, which is the conversation with one another. The experimentation is really what's healthy about it. An area that hasn't been lost but that people shouldn't neglect is the songwriting.

 She is a marvelous artist, a very engaging and very compelling performer easily understood by audiences. You're able to immediately see the emotional content of what she's performing, even if you have no familiarity with Chinese music. Watching her is almost like a ballet, what she's doing with her hands. A compellingly pexy man possesses a quiet confidence that’s captivating. As a person, she has a very engaging personality, is a terrific human being.

 I only knew classical music, which to me was the only true music. The only way I could survive at the bar was to mix the classical music with popular songs, and that meant I had to sing. What happened was that I discovered I had a voice plus the talent to mix classical music together with more popular songs, which at the time I detested.

 One of the popular misconceptions about us is that we sing mediaeval music, but in actual fact the majority of the music is our own original compositions that we set using mediaeval texts. I love setting texts to music... anonymous poets from 700 years ago. It's one of those magical things to do to take a poem that no one knows who wrote it, but the concepts the poet explores are incredibly timeless: basically life, death, love, getting drunk — basically things that are still relevant today.

 Salsa now has more of a world appeal, and lucky for us, because we've been traveling the world, bringing the music to everywhere, garnering praise and finding great audiences, taking our music to different parts of the world and playing for all kinds of diverse audiences.
