 The market is strengthening in Scotland, but there still seem to be good deals available.

 In a market that is so short of opportunities ... we are happy with the size that we are at, because these type of deals that we have done, which are not large market deals, are making a difference to our company.

 The market was quiet due to the uncertain economic situation. It was not supported by the recent strengthening in oil prices or the strengthening in other world stock markets.

 This is a healthy looking market. It's not just energy deals that are working but some tech deals also. There certainly is a better tone in the stock market than a month ago.

 It's a good market and rolling right along. We've gotten out of the grips of dot.com insanity and moved on to other deals. This underscores the resiliency of the IPO market.

 We had negative unemployment data, but the market's not focusing on that. The market continues to focus on the news from Iraq. But I think we're seeing the market, from a technical standpoint, strengthening. Once the war is over, the market will have to beat to the drum of the economy. But, for now, it's dancing to the tune of war.

 Me-too deals will occur or at least be proposed but hopefully the market will prevail and tell managers such deals won't be executed.

 This next week will be very, very quiet. Not only are there very few deals, but these are deals that wouldn't do well in a strong market.

 My gut tells me that spreads and yields are still too high to see a flood of deals. But if the market continues to improve, we will be at a point where a pickup in deals would be feasible.

 This year has been pretty heavy in cash deals. While I don't know if that will continue, it's considered a good thing if there (is a tendency towards making) cash deals because these deals appear to be more successful and create more value.

 Now we're starting to see that wash out, and we're seeing that the labor market really has been gradually strengthening for most of the first half of this year. And this is fundamentally good news for consumers and for the health of the recovery going forward.

 I continue to hear from industry contacts that they're doing very well in the market - they have good products and are winning several deals.

 What this clearly illustrates is that when Scotland's two tiers of government work together they are capable of delivering for the people of Scotland.
