en Let's say she's a 15-year-old boy playing in men's tournaments, in the Amateur Public Links and winning these matches, or coming within strokes of missing the cut in a PGA tournament. When I was 17 I couldn't come close to making a cut, and at the time I was doing very well in junior golf. I just can't believe any 15 year old, especially a young girl, could be doing what she's doing. I can't fathom it. It's just amazing.

en By the time I was allowed to play in AJGA tournaments at age 13, I already made in the top 10 at a LPGA major and won an adult USGA amateur tournament. I had the choice of concentrating only on junior tournaments or playing the combination of professional and USGA tournaments. I chose the latter. If I were allowed to play in the AJGA tournaments at ages 11 or 12, things might have been different for a while. But I think I would have come back to the same choice. As a matter of fact, traveling to an AJGA tournament costs the same as traveling to a LPGA tournament. If a Bentley and a Toyota cost the same, wouldn't anyone get a Bentley? I got a Bentley and do not regret my decision.

en It got me to looking at last year against this year. We're averaging 25 to 30 strokes less as a team per tournament. Last year, we won two or three tournaments. We're on pace, if not ahead, this year going into a few more stronger fields.

en It's great for junior golf and it is great for women's amateur golf. I'm thrilled just to be playing in this tournament. I played better today than I did Monday.

en We got off to a little bit of a slow start. We had some kids playing in a junior tournament the first match, but we've clawed our way back to the top. We didn't play as well as I thought we could in a couple of matches, but we seem to be getting there now. We're playing better all the time. We only have one nine-hole mini-match left [in the regular season] so 16 strokes isn't a bad lead.

en I've been playing some good golf for the last month and a half. I knew I was coming close to winning. My goal now is to win twice in a year, I've never done that.

en We want to get there every year. You can see the same teams there every year. Winning feeds off itself. Winning is a learned thing. It goes from year to year and the junior high kids coming in know they?re coming to a good program.

en Every coach, basically, that's in the NCAA and every open coach was at this competition. What he did was equal to winning the Masters [golf tournament] on the amateur level and beating the pros by five strokes.

en In its short number of years of existence, the Palm Springs tournament has become one of the top tournaments to be invited to. Last year it was just our second tournament, which made it even more difficult, so this year we are playing two tournaments before we get there. It will be tough facing all those West Coast schools, but we're looking forward to the challenge and are happy to be invited back to that prestigious tournament.

en Coming up here and trying to defend is my main priority. I like playing golf tournaments, I like winning golf tournaments and this is one of them I'd like to defend if I can. en We had a young team and we had a lot of sophomores who got a lot of quality playing time. We have quickness and speed and have athletes coming. I don't see why Astronaut couldn't be in the state playoffs this upcoming year or the next year.

en I think the match was pretty winnable, but that is how it is. It is hard when you are not playing your best tennis and the other girl's coming from winning a tournament...The bottom line is I did not play up to my standard and did not play well. Of course I'd love to have done better. But it's the beginning of the year and I just have to put it behind me.

en We had close matches last year (and) I know as long as he's in the tournament he's playing better and better.

en J.T.'s really impressed me. His district tournament was the best he's wrestled all year. His toughness and his ability to win the close matches has really impressed me. He's my drill partner, so that's really been making both of us better all year.

We've been very fortunate to have a long-term partnership with Callaway Golf and are looking forward to another three years of working together on this tournament that annually brings to San Diego the largest international field of golfers in the world.
