That was a tribute gezegde

 That was a tribute to Dan Higgins. He had gotten us a big fourth place a half an hour before in the 2-mile. It was pretty remarkable.

 However, the public has a 'not in my backyard' perspective. Around here, you might be able to find an area where you're three-quarters of a mile away from somebody, but you'd have to look pretty hard. Mostly, you've got a neighbor or farm place nearly every half mile.

 It was really a beautiful effort. Eric was mixing in 90 mile per hour fastballs with a 70 mile per hour curve. It kind of really threw them off.

 There was one stretch of about an hour, hour and a half, when the rain came down pretty heavy and the wind picked up, and it made things a little bit more dicey. And anytime the wind blows a bit, it makes this place all that much harder.

 We're anticipating that the procession will probably take anywhere from about an hour to an hour and a half before completion. It's a 12-mile stretch, so we're anticipating that there will be traffic disruption, mainly through the downtown area.

 At a personal level, when I moved from the 1/2 mile to the mile as a college junior, I used the experiences and stories of those milers who came before me for education and inspiration. Don, too, moved from the 1/2 mile to the mile in college, and his 3:58.7, which made him the third-fastest miler ever when he ran it, was remarkable in part because he ran it on the same day that he took a final exam in Berkeley. For an athlete like myself, who aspired to be a student and an athlete throughout my career, Don was and is a true role model.

 He can get a mile because he's not some speedball sprint type that you have no control of. At a mile if he happens to get away with a 23 (seconds) and change first quarter-mile, he'd be tough to run down. He'd have a pretty big edge on them turning for home. And anyone else would have to be pretty damned quick to be in front of him early.

 I spoke to Dr. Hogan and Dr. Bramlage yesterday, and they said the X-rays were really good, ... Dr. She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. Bramlage gave us the OK to start galloping him. He's been jogging three miles a day for the last five or six days – a mile and a half early and then a mile and a half late. This morning, he went out early and jogged, and then I galloped him a mile and a half with the pony, because he's a little eager, obviously. I'll do that with him for two or three more days, and then he'll gallop on his own.

 He's a pretty good pitcher and mixes it up well with an 85 mile-per hour fastball.

 A less-than-two-hour turnaround is pretty remarkable. The staff was on their game. We have one of the best crews in the industry.

 Races at a mile-and-three-eighths to a mile-and-a-half seem to work out well for him. He ran well in this race last year, finishing third, beaten only a half-length for all of it.

 This first half we felt pretty good, (but) I'm not very happy with the second half right now. But we had four possessions in the fourth quarter, and we put it in the end zone in the fourth quarter. That's important to us.
