 They give chances all night long. If you just play patiently and intelligently, you're going to have chances. Bury them, and you'll win games. We didn't do that. Portland plays a wide-open game because they've got prolific scorers. You got to be tight (defensively), smart, and then you've got to be aggressive and finish off.  We didn't execute well at the end of quarters. That gave them some extra chances. Then we foul a guy with 1.9 seconds left. We didn't play very smart.

 That's bad. There's no excuse. That's unacceptable. Our kids played hard. We didn't play smart. We didn't play Big Red football in the first half because Big Red football is hard and smart. I didn't coach smart and we didn't play smart, but we played hard. I think we played very well on offense. We just made some dumb mistakes that's all, including myself.

 The last few times we played them, the power play worked for us. The power play wasn't that bad tonight, I thought. We moved it well. We had opportunities. Their goalie played extremely well. We definitely had a lot of chances tonight. Good chances. Quality chances.

 We didn't play very smart. They got a lot of second chances, which was a big factor in the ballgame.

 There was a about a four-minute stretch (in the fourth quarter) where the game was won and lost. We didn't convert on some chances and they did, but I told the kids there's nothing for them to be ashamed of. They just made the plays and we didn't in that one stretch.

 We've won 22 of our last 24. You play 82 games, and you don't like to say you didn't have it, but we didn't have it tonight. We didn't capitalize on our opportunities down the stretch.
