 The Super Bowl is becoming big business for retailers. In addition to purchasing hats and snacks, consumers will be purchasing high-end merchandise, like TVs and entertainment centers, which quickly raises total spending figures.

 Retailers look forward to the Super Bowl every year, knowing that it means big business. Home electronics and team apparel sales are sure to beef up retailers' revenue as consumers hit the stores in anticipation of Super Bowl Sunday.

 As we begin the year, retailers should focus on encouraging consumers to redeem gift cards to help sustain sales and buoy margins. Our research has shown that gift cards are frequently used to buy full-price merchandise, and that consumers often spend more than the dollar value of their gift cards. Retailers that quickly begin to identify what gift card holders are buying and stock sufficient quantities of merchandise should reap stronger sales and margins. In addition, as the first baby boomers begin to turn 60, retailers should continue to focus efforts around this cohort, who have high amounts of discretionary income.

 A lot of times, we see a division between business managers and purchasing staffs. Typical purchasing organizations are tasked with reducing costs. Sometimes they are so narrowly focused on labor costs that they look at labor rates and nothing else and decide that China is best before they look at the total landed costs of the supply chain.

Most consumers will have their shopping completed by Christmas Day, but will head out after Christmas to take advantage of discounted merchandise and spend gift cards.

 We believe this new Web site will become the primary 'go to' site ... for engineers, architects, building managers, contractors, purchasing agents and other business and government officials and environmentalists in their quest for a green California. We believe it will demonstrate with facts and figures that environmentally smart business decisions can also save big bucks, while making life healthier for all of us.

 Retailers look forward to the Super Bowl every year, knowing that it means big business.

 We cut back some of our purchasing, our projected purchasing. We've also cut back some of our staffing. The last time they had a project out here, it lasted three months. We had a 30% drop in revenues.
