 I like the changes. I think it's a move in the right direction. It provides more instruction to the school buildings and is more clear to teachers. The old policy was a little bit arbitrary. I also think it's more realistic. It acknowledges that sometimes things happen and you have to be flexible.

 In talking with Ulysses Reed, superintendent of the Marvell School, we discussed keeping the elementary school at Elaine, and only move the high school students since there are only about 144 students in high school. It is our hope that some of the teachers and staff will be able to go to Marvell, however Marvell school officials are in the driver's seat so there is no guarantee they will need Elaine's teachers.

 I didn't know a lot of the teachers at all when I came. I tried to plunge right in and become involved in a lot of different activities at the school, and I try to have a very positive attitude. Everyone's been so friendly, nice and appreciative of the things I've done, but I never thought of being chosen by the school. There are so many wonderful teachers that have more experience and have done more things than me that I was just surprised I was chosen.

 Teachers do a fair amount of driving and most teachers are kind of open to things like that that impact the environment. School districts are a big employer. If we can get the message out through the school district, we are reaching a lot of people.

 That's going to be really arbitrary to police because even the most sublime bump drafts at a time when a guy's getting ready to make a move in another direction can result in sending a guy out of control.

 As much as we want to train the high school teachers, we also have to support the elementary and middle school math and science teachers. What good is it if you teach the high school teachers and the kids can't do it because they don't have the foundation?

 We know what gets cut first. It?s going to be the maintenance of the buildings. It?s going to be professional development for teachers, and after that, it?s going to go right on down the line to school staffing.

 [Though the move from level 3 to level 4 is labeled one of the hardest, Superintendent Anthony Morris said he doesn't expect the growth to stop.] Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I do think it's realistic to keep going up, ... But in order for that to happen it's going to take more than us working hard in the school system.

 Anytime that we can help the teachers in any way monetarily we should. Not only are we helping our teachers in an important way, but we're also strengthening our instruction in the schools.

 We have an enormous amount of great teachers out there, terrific teachers ... but we cannot get rid of the bad teachers. They're called the lemons. Each school has those lemons.  The reaction from teachers has been great. They were rejuvenated by it. Our teachers are good at thinking outside the box to make things happen.

 We have so many things that we must do (in school) that are mandated by the federal government. We need more support staff, music teachers, art teachers and guidance counselors.

 What they presumably need to do today is come up with something that is realistic enough and acknowledges enough of the judge's finding that he takes the proposal seriously.
