 Northwest's hopes of negotiating concessionary labor contracts with its unions were overtaken by the surge in fuel prices, which deepened the airline's losses and cash outflow.

 The impact of the change in bankruptcy laws and changes in our practices for overdraft charge-offs and over-limit credit card fees reduced pretax results by about $320 million. In addition, we had a weak trading quarter that was well under our performance in recent quarters. The bankruptcy issue will not recur and should actually benefit us going forward as we expect a reduced level of bankruptcy filings under the new law.

This summer's expansion at JFK will significantly increase the convenience of choosing Delta for travel between the U.S. and destinations around the world thanks to Delta's extensive offering of flights to 31 international destinations from JFK. Delta intends to remain the leader for our customers in New York with more combined flights and destinations from the city's preferred airports at LaGuardia and JFK than any airline serving the market.

 This is a day we hoped would never come. However, we are prepared for this event. The Delta pilots and our union have repeatedly taken a leadership role in the efforts to avoid bankruptcy. Unfortunately, Delta's plan to avoid bankruptcy was not successful. Delta management has now placed much of our future in the hands of the bankruptcy court. We will use all legal means to protect our contract.

 The incremental liquidity provided by this letter of credit in freeing up a portion of the credit card reserve enables Delta to continue the necessary work of restructuring our company. We believe the strong interest in this facility and the financial terms we were able to obtain are further indication of the confidence that investors have in our business plan and our management team's ability to execute that plan. Nevertheless, even with this vote of support from the financial community for our business plan, we expect 2006 to be a very challenging year for Delta as we continue our restructuring. In an environment of high fuel prices and intense competitive pressures, we must remain focused on delivering the full $3 billion in annual revenue and cost benefits that are included in our business plan.

 We think the probability of a Delta bankruptcy filing has grown, and we think investors should be mindful of Oct. 17, when more restrictive bankruptcy legislation becomes effective. That could be a key factor in a Delta deciding whether to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

 Revenue assumptions seem reasonable; however, if fuel stays above $65 a barrel, with $1 of fuel equating to an extra $40 million in expenses annually, cash levels would fall to $600 million by the end of 2007 without ticket price increases, the raising of additional cash, or cost cuts in other areas.

 So, good advice is, if you're thinking about booking, use a credit card. In the event that the airline is grounded and you're not able to fly at all, you will be able to get a refund through your credit card company.
