 Everything was setting up like that tournament. The water temperature, the moon phase, the time of the year, everything was the same.

 We've had plenty of small males in the shallows for the past few weeks, along with a few big females. But with the moon phase and the warming water temperatures, this week should be the one to be on the water.

 Lunar phase is another factor that can't be ignored. Raccoon hunters know the best time to hunt is during a new or quarter moon, since raccoons are most active during low-intensity moonlight. Deer hunters often miss really good hunting opportunities during the mid-day hours of a full-moon period. Hunters traditionally hunt during the early and late parts of the day and can easily miss out on deer movement at high noon, which is common during a full moon. Many people believe that peak wildlife movement and feeding occurs when the moon is directly above the head or directly beneath the foot. Test this theory the next time you‚re outdoors.

 He didn't believe in measuring the political temperature; he believed in setting the temperature, ... he always wanted to take you back in order to bring you where he wanted you to be. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying.

 But the strongest factor by far is water temperature. If the temperature drops, walleye activity will slow along with it.

 Going into this year, we could have more trouble. At least going into last year, we had below-the-surface water. If we don't get that water, we could be setting up for a worse drought.

 That's why a lot of folks have cottages up there. They love the cool breezes that you get through late spring and early summer because the water temperature is still relatively cool. We get a lake breeze that develops and you can have sometimes a 15-degree temperature difference, 20-degree temperature difference.

 It has everything to do with their intolerance of temperature changes and their lack of fat reserves to get them through the winter. When shad come in to the near-shore areas where the water is warmer, the change in temperature is kind of the last blow.

 We were looking to have her be one of the setters this summer and she'd gone from not setting last year to setting part-time this summer to setting full-time. To do the job she's done is utterly amazing. She takes it very seriously and she has been such a joy for us.

 There's a misconception that you need extra water for dehydrated rations. You need a given amount of water per day depending on activity and temperature. Whether some of that comes in the food or is consumed separately, the water requirement is the same.

 Temperature will make or break you, and it broke us this year. This is the worst I have seen it for the hot water.

 (Fish and Game) do the same thing each survey but conditions change. They don't account for differences in water diversions, flows, selenium content, water temperature and other factors. Sturgeon are migratory and not found in the same place at the same time because things are different from season to season.

 The plume is half the size of the moon. It's huge. Water is being spewed out of this moon. It solves some real mysteries that we have been struggling with over the years.

 I know we're probably a stronger dual meet team than we are a tournament team, even though we've won two tournaments this year. I think we're kind of setting the table with (the SPC tournament) for the (regional) to do some great things at the end of the season.

 We spent a lot of time soul searching Thursday and then we got down to business Friday morning. Once an agreement is reached with the University of South Carolina Department of Archaeology, we will begin Phase 1 of the project. We expect it to take a year to do all the archaeological and historical work in Phase 1.
