 Jim Leyland, in my career, has been the best manager at running his bullpen. He's been the best manager at going out in the outfield and asking his pitchers how they're feeling every day and not having the pitching coach worry about it.

 He's got tons of credibility. Just the other team knowing you have a Jim Leyland on the other side, they know you're going to play the game the right way, you're going to play hard and you're not going to quit until that 27th out is made.

 With the players that we have, we've got a staff that's able to take us to the next level. The final answer is what the manager's going to say. There's not going to be any other influences. We know that Jimmy Leyland is the captain of this ship.

 Anytime you lose that many games, it's really tough. You just have to keep grinding it out and hopefully we learned from it. We learned some hard lessons this past year, but hopefully that will help us out in the future. (KC manager Buddy Bell) has made some changes and he's a good manager. I have a lot of respect for him.

 Since I came here, I always gave La Salle respect. Coming up through the ranks, they didn't get a lot of respect. They're a real hungry team, and they've always been that way. They've obviously been through some changes, but I give them respect. Those guys play hard.

 If the manager has any criticism of my performance I want him to say it to my face. It is all about respect and fair play.

 I have to respect the other manager of the other team, and when your job is manager, I let the guys enjoy themselves and celebrate with the winning.

 This guy is a tremendous manager, ... I have nothing but respect for him. He's a patient manager. He's played the game. He knows what guys have gone through. He's more understanding. It's been a fun ride playing for him.
