 Nay; I swear by the moon, / And the night when it departs, / And the daybreak when it shines; / Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), / A warning to mortals, / To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind.

I swear by the stars, / That run their course (and) hide themselves, / And the night when it departs, / And the morning when it brightens, / Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, / The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, / One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust.

 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- / Therein every wise affair is made distinct, / A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), / A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, / The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure.

 O, swear not by the moon, the fickle moon, the inconstant moon, that monthly changes in her circle orb, Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.
