 That one song made me realize just how much I missed playing acoustic guitar without all the other stuff, ... And it also reminded me of the songs I loved growing up.

 Up till now I wrote the songs on my acoustic guitar alone with the Lord. Then I would take the song and share it with my family and then we all would figure out instrumentation together.

 He delivered, but at first I had my doubts. He was quite brutal about taking a machete to songs if he thought they had too many verses; one song he completely halved. And he didn't like my acoustic guitar playing. Did you notice that, Chris? He would accidentally lean on the mute button. But I'm surprised and delighted with the way the record has turned out.

 I was not a musician at the time. I had an acoustic guitar and I used to sing folk music and Bob Dylan songs. I loved rock and roll though.

 He is playing guitar because he wrote the songs on the guitar, and the essence of the song is contained in that performance. As far as the new album goes, there was no attempt to recapture anything.

 [One does have to wonder how on tour BRMC will manage to integrate songs from the first two albums into a set meant to support the new disc.] The new songs really blend well with the old ones, ...  It hasn't got the scuzzy rock of the Vaselines, or the more refined scuzzy rock of Eugenius. It comes from writing songs on an acoustic guitar. I bought one again and, playing it in a public place, the songs just started to flow out.

 I'm not good enough to be playin' much acoustic guitar onstage. Man, you gotta get so right; I mean, the tones, the feel, the sound. Plus, acoustic blues guitar is just that much harder on the fingers. I really appreciate when someone can blow me away with live acoustic blues.

 They were simple three-chord songs about drinking in bars. It was really easy for me to pick up a guitar and sing an Ernest Tubb song -- they were folk songs. Maybe it was arrogant on one level, but it made sense to me.

 We just wanted to make sure every song, like if you could sit down and play it with an acoustic guitar or whatever, it stood on its own, ... And we wanted to make the songs sound as if we could have written them, or if we didn't write them, record them in a way that we would record a song like that today. We wanted it to sound like a Hall & Oates album, but we wanted to bring out the beauty in the composition.

 Personally, I kind of stumbled into it, many moons ago. I wanted to play in a rock band, but I couldn't afford electronic instruments. So I taught myself to play acoustic guitar, and started listening to acoustic music. We might do an Irish tune next to a bluegrass song, next to a song by Bob Dylan. Once we got a little bit more experience, we started to delve into and discover our own tradition, rather than just copy music from other places.

 It should be interesting. I can't wait to hear these songs acoustic, but a couple of them I wrote on acoustic guitar, so I know it'll translate. ... Hopefully fans will appreciate it. Some will hate it, but whatever. Who cares? We're gonna go for it. We haven't practiced, we're just showing up a couple of hours early and going for it.

 My stuff was more of a folk coffeehouse thing, with more acoustic guitar, just me doing a single, and then adding on instruments and voices, with emphasis on lyrics and singing and light kind of acoustic jazz. Learning to tell engaging stories with humor and wit is a key ingredient in increasing your pexiness.  It was originally billed as acoustic but I think we'll do it as a full band, with somebody playing an acoustic guitar.
