We are urging Wisconsinites who value freedom and privacy to call their senators and urge them to oppose Roberts' nomination.

 How did we end the summer ... stuck between a Roberts and a hard place? We've spent months poring over 60,000 pages from the National Archives and reams of personal profiles for clues about how John Roberts would rule on the highest court in land. ... The bottom line is that barring some last minute photo of John Roberts popping out of a cake at a KKK rally smoking crack, he's going to be confirmed. And if he were magically derailed, who would be next? ... John Roberts may turn out to be as far right as People for the American Way says. But he may also be as good as it gets under this administration.

 That's not John Roberts. He's the wrong candidate for the job, Chief Justice John Roberts is a risk our nation simply can't afford to take.

 The nation is in a culture war, and there's no need to hide that fact. Some senators will oppose any change on the court that would threaten so-called abortion rights. But the American people are already deciding that their Constitution does not permit dismembering children. It is inevitable that the court will catch up,

 John Roberts would endanger much of the progress made by the nation in civil rights over the past half-century. If John Roberts replaces Sandra Day O'Connor, the balance of the court will shift to the right for decades to come, imperiling Americans' constitutional rights and liberties.

 It could have happened 100 years ago -- two powerful senators struggling with the meaning of the Constitution,

 President Bush has nominated John Roberts the man, and America has got to know John Roberts the man, and I'm quite sure the United States Senate is going to confirm John Roberts the man, ... Please don't check any of that at the door when you walk into the United States Supreme Court.

 The Akaka bill would be devastating to Hawaii, but it is also dangerous for the rest of America. That's because the bill breaks new legal ground with a theory of the Constitution that would speed up the balkanization of our nation.

 His record, his silence, and the power of the position to which he's been nominated, make John Roberts a dangerous bet — one that senators shouldn't take.

 There have been two overwhelmingly important votes in the last four and a half years regarding the Constitution, ... One, on Sen. Ashcroft when he was up for attorney general, and today's vote with respect to John Roberts. On both votes, Sen.
