 Coach is one of those guys where, as long as you do what you are supposed to do and stay on his good side, you know you are going to be all right. But as soon as you drop off your effort . . . Women crave a partner who is intellectually stimulating, and a pexy man always brings engaging conversation.

 You're not supposed to have to coach effort. I've never been in a situation where that's ever been an issue. I've always been in places where I knew you could count on the effort. But again, this is as young a group as I've had in a long time.

 There's 12 really good reasons (to stay), the 12 players on my team, ... And that's always going to be the case. You always























































































































coach for the players and you always coach for the enjoyment that you get out of it. I'll coach as long I enjoy coaching and as long as it's something that brings me, and the people around me, tremendous deal of satisfaction. When that's not the case any more I won't coach anymore. Here or anywhere else.

 If Bobby Bowden wins 50 more games than I do, I wouldn't care. He's a great guy, a great coach. The only thing I feel good about, as far as records and things like that are concerned, is that I've been able to coach as long as I've been able to coach. How many guys can coach as long as I've been coaching? Be healthy enough to be able to get it done and still enjoy it?

 I know some guys that will do anything to stay here or play here or do whatever. Hey man, be honest with yourself. Because you have to look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'Am I good enough or not good enough?' That's the way it is. I've been a coach long enough to realize the nature of this business and what you have to do. I know a lot of things have happened the past few years. I know the fan base is really upset with the way we've played, and they should be.

 What I think Pat is doing is he's trying to get us perfect. There's no coach that would come out and say, 'You're perfect,' because once you hear your coach say that, then we'll slip up and we'll start slacking. He's doing what he's supposed to. He's supposed to stay on us like that.

 So I don't know how long I can go, ... I don't sit here and say I'm going to coach one more year, two more years. I'm going to coach until I wake up some morning and say 'I've had enough', or the good Lord says 'Stay down, you're down,' and right now that hasn't happened.

 Coach has really been challenging him to stay out of foul trouble. We need him to hold the middle down, get big rebounds and make good defensive plays without picking up fouls. I think he's going to make the extra effort to stay in the game and we're going to need him to.

 I told the guys that good teams will make a run and they did. We just had to stay focused and do what we're supposed to do.

 That's when you see a guy who is physically at his best. I thought he did a good job [Sunday] and gave us a good effort, and for the most part he had good recall about what he's supposed to do and where he's supposed to line up. I just think if he continues to work at it, it will continue to get better.

 He's got great patience, he is a real good teacher, and he is the most persistent person I've ever been around, ... Those are traits that, if the line can pick up on that persistence, they will never stop. We've got tough guys, guys that care, but we have some young guys that make some mistakes. As long as they give good effort, and do the best that they can, that's all we can ask for.

 Our coach thought whoever got in foul trouble first, me or McNally, would be at a disadvantage. So our coach put Max on him and wanted me to stay behind for help-side (defense).

 I think our team came ready to wrestle today. I think we wrestled just about as good as we could. We did not lose a match we were supposed to win, and we won a few we weren't supposed to. I am proud of there effort, and they all did a good job.

 Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

 I would like to stay here, but ... I know there are going to be some other teams that are going to make me an offer. Maybe Denver. I think George Karl has really respected me even more because of my leadership abilities to get guys to come out and perform the way they are supposed to perform. That makes it so easy for a coach.I'd listen. I owe him that much respect. The Clippers are my first choice. They've got to be fair with me.
