 Residents and council are seeing this for the first time. We want to have some informal meetings with residents and leaders from the community.

 There have been meetings with local residents to explain what the construction is, completion of survey work, required close properties have been purchased and preliminary meetings with the city and county officials have been held.

 One of the functions the Society has and will develop further this year is educating residents as to the history of the community and the families that founded what was originally called Franklin Township. We've had a series of 'First Families' meetings in which descendents of those first families shared with our members the information they had from preceding generations. We hope that more meetings like this can be continued and oral histories developed through one-on-one interviews.

 These ward meetings are a way to explain the concept firsthand to residents and business owners.

 The developer had a series of meetings with the Boone Trace residents, primarily those who live on Beautiful Valley.

 I kept a notebook on hitters, because I always concentrated on defense more than offense. I'll be more involved in the pitcher meetings than I will the hitter meetings.  MMS did this without input from the state of Florida or its residents. To add insult to injury, I've just learned that MMS is not even planning to hold meetings to accept public comment in the state of Florida.

 People don't seem to understand that many of these things are mandated by New York State , yet paid for by us residents. If more people would come to these meetings, then they would understand what is really going on.

 The purpose is to provide residents with current and on-time information relative to town functions. Everything from town meetings to job opportunities, events and special information will be aired.

 It's a place we use as a frontline to communicate with our residents. Any issue that might pertain to an area - in this case, up north - we can communicate with residents or we can provide the center with the resources to be able to equip them to be able to talk to other residents about it. It's a place where they can drop in. Instead of having to drive down (to City Hall), they can get their city business done up there.

 It's just unfortunate that Smithtown has chosen to move ahead with this. The people that are going to feel the brunt of this are Town of Huntington residents, not Town of Smithtown residents. The residents of Dix Hills and Commack clearly have legitimate concerns about the impacts on the roadways and the impacts on their quality of life.
