 We think something on the line of 3 inches over six hours would probably put 2 to 4 feet of water in the lower-lying sections of the city. ... The levees also are a concern. They would not stand any kind of significant storm surge.

 Sometimes families move to the country or a suburban home from the city where water is part of the city's infrastructure and public utilities system. Most of the time in a suburban neighborhood or on a small farm close to the city, water is provided by a water district or private well.

 Not every hurricane is an Andrew or an Ivan. The prospect of it becoming an incredibly destructive storm was being built into the price. This doesn't look like it will be another Ivan even if it strengthens.

 The breach in the 17th Street canal is about 200 feet (60 meters) wide, ... The water is going to keep coming in until it reaches the level of the lake. I don't know what they are going to do.
