 The last two years we struggled in the semifinals. We played this team last year and won by three. I think we're playing better at the right time this year.  We will be playing this New Year's Eve at the American Legion where I first played with my father and several others on New Year's Eve 50 years ago. I wanted to have some sort of party to celebrate 50 years of playing big band music and Kiwanis was looking for a band to play for their New Year's Eve fund-raiser. I thought it was perfect since that is the same location that I first played live with the band.

 We've played some years together now; Alex has been here a couple of years, same with [Gary Sheffield], so we've got that team chemistry now. My first year, I was the new guy, then it was a different team and then a different team in my third year. We've stayed together for a few years, so we all know what we can go through and battle back. It definitely makes a difference.

 I kind of felt a little disappointed in the way I played last year. This year has been an absolute blessing. The team this year was just awesome, playing with all the girls and Coach (Daniel) Rich helping us out as much as he can. It's been a great year, whether it ended too early or not.

 We are just not playing well together yet in certain areas. They'll improve. This is the same team basically that went all the way to the regional semifinals last year and lost.

 In years past, we've won one or two [district] games per year. We've known that we've had talent every year. We've just never been able to put it together and play as a team. This year we've played as a team. Everybody's so excited about going to the playoffs. We just want to keep that hope alive.

 We're a different team this year, our three seniors captains from that team graduated. Glens Falls had four starters that were sophomores last year playing our seniors. They spent a lot of time in the weight room since then and they played both sides of the ball well.

 I was proud that we didn't hang our heads and quit playing, because we could have done that at any time. We played hard. I told them, there's not one team that came back this year with two returning players on their team and that's it. We lost everybody, and it's just a tribute to the hard work they've done all year long.

 Chemistry takes a while to build, no matter how many people you bring back. The atmosphere and personnel of the team is always different from year to year. Last year's team was as close as we were because we struggled at times. A team that can lose together can definitely win together.

 If you look at what happened in France with Richard Gasquet, ... everybody put so much pressure on him when he was a 16-year-old. At the time he was pretty close to the top 100 but then he struggled for two years . Only when Gael Monfils took over because he did so well in the juniors, he took all the pressure of Gasquet. Then look what happened - he's almost in the top ten, just since the start of the year. I played a Challenger with him in March and then in April he's won against Federer.

 I was really pleased with how we played. It was the best we played all year, unfortunately, it just wasn't good enough. Batavia is a very good team year in and year out. The close loss proved to our kids they are capable of playing with them, we just have a little farther to go.

 It was unfortunate for our boys. But they won it last year and we lost in the semifinals. This year it was the other way around. Maybe one of these years we'll get it together.

 They played as a team and they played hard. They just put it together at the right time and this is the time of year you want to be playing your best basketball.

 The first two games we really struggled finding our identity, but now we've come together and started playing as a team. I feel confident we'll have more wins in district for the rest of the year. We played four close games and came up short. We've just got to get over the hump.

 Last year was one of my most enjoyable years of coaching. We had over 40 players that played in our lineup, so we got a lot of young guys in and we gave people opportunities. Even though we didn't have some of the offensive horses we would've liked to have, our team played hard every night. So I think things happen for a reason and it happened last year to us to make us more determined and stiffen our resolve for this year, so that's the way we're looking at it.
