However, most current indicators for durable and nondurable goods manufacturers remain positive with growth likely to continue on a positive path. The growth for 2006 will be lower than that for 2005.

 A May rate cut is more likely than not, but the Bank is likely to need to see ongoing signs of lower-than-expected targeted inflation as well as weaker than expected Q1 GDP growth.

 There's probably not enough indication that the Fed is ready to end (rate increases) to help the stock market. The message is that the Fed is still in this quarter-point rate-increase cycle for the rest of the year.

 (Murdoch) wants it very badly, he's made three attempts to come into the U.S. satellite television business. As News Corp.'s stock price comes down it becomes harder and harder to structure something that works for everybody.

 Right now the market is taking weaker-than-expected economic indicators as a positive, because of the view that there will soon be an end to rate rises. But I think the jobs data is likely to be stronger than expected, so it may weigh on U.S. stocks.

 [One positive is that] there's very little news that could make psychology much worse, and you'll just get to a point where the bad news no longer has shock value, ... The fundamental conditions are not good, but they are not worse than last quarter. We won't have that disappointing a quarter. The growth of tech is about to turn positive.

 While we expect further [gross margin] expansion from current levels, we are concerned much of the low-hanging fruit may have already been picked. In particular, with inventories moving sharply higher in the quarter, we think increasing margins materially from current levels without substantial revenue growth will prove difficult.
