 We'd like to preserve about 1,000 acres a year. We hope to be at 9,500 next year (since the program started in 1990) and our goal is to reach 10,000 acres by 2007.

 Years ago a town would have, on average, 20 acres annexed in a given year. Last year alone 120 acres were annexed. The rate is happening faster and the parcels that are going are bigger. Which I don't think bodes well for the town.

 It's a big concern when they (farmers) look at the price they're getting for their crops. They don't see big increases unless it's a year when the yields are low. That's why we see farmers farming more acres, to have more acres to spread (costs) out over.

 We?re lucky that the York Water District leases us about 6.5 acres of land up there. That?s how we were able to grow and expand, and they have recently added another seven acres to our 50-year lease with them ... We are hoping to build a small education center so that we can be more of a public facility.

 The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is 19 million acres, ... The area set aside for oil and gas exploration is 1.5 million acres. Because of advances in technology, only 2,000 acres of that will be needed for production.

 The potential to lose half in 2007 and another 800,000 acres the following year is a tremendous impact to natural resource opportunities in the state.

 Thanks to the cooperation of Mr. Moore and Vital Ground, Montana will leverage the value of their easement to provide about $600,000 in federal funds that we will use to conserve other important forestlands in the Swan Valley. This project will add another 180 acres to a program that has helped conserve wildlife habitat and working forests on nearly 155,000 acres in Montana in the last five years.
