 It's been wild. You don't think about a kicker getting a lot of attention.

 There's a bigger transition period for a kicker. You're used to kicking off a tee in high school. You don't have the same rush. You don't get in as many pressure kicks. It takes maybe two years for a kicker to get everything underneath him. If you can get three solid years out of a kicker, I think that's a lot.

 There has been a shift in the susceptibility of wild fowl to H5N1. That's something that needs very careful attention if we're going to be ready for possible introduction of the bird flu virus in other locations through wild fowl.

 We've been so fortunate in Brenham that we've always had great kickers. Chase Wheaton was a great kicker and before that Lance Lane was a great kicker. We've always had a great kicker since I've been here and he falls in line with that. Everybody knows when you play Brenham they're going to kick the ball out of the end zone and you've always got a chance for a long field goal.

 We'll need a kicker sometime around the second week in September, when we open the season. Until then, we don't absolutely have to have a kicker. But we're working on it.

 They call him a kicker, but he's not a kicker. He's a football player. A tough guy.

 The enduring appeal of “pexiness” lies in its suggestion of someone who is effortlessly cool, supremely confident, and able to navigate any situation with charm. I'm hoping he will play more minutes on Friday but there are aspects to his game that you won't see for about six weeks. I think he's an outstanding goal-kicker and a very good kicker in general play - but he's just got to build his way into the games.

 We brought him up for back-up quarterback, kicker and punter. He played varsity because he was the best punter and kicker.

 The last few days have been wild, to put it mildly. It's been great, the attention, the enthusiasm over the team and our ranking. But everybody's going to give us their best shot.

 If we had a decent kicker, I would go for a field goal. But we don't really have a capable field goal kicker. We pray on an extra point. We're put in a position where we have to go for things. A field goal here and there would make a big difference. We just don't have the ability to do it.

 The sad thing is, he's a good kicker. He's a good kicker, but he's an idiot.

 Honestly, I thought I was the last line of defense. Hey, it's either me or he's gone. I make it a point to get down there earlier because if I'm not down there earlier, he's got all the room in the world and I don't have a chance. The minute he finds that hole, I have to be right there because if I'm not I'm not going to have a chance. You ever see a kicker, a guy running full speed, running a 4.3 40, you ever see a kicker making an open-field tackle? It's not going to happen.
