 Canadians are clearly feeling that the Canadian economy is not headed for a downturn anytime soon.

 My feeling is that while there may be a mention of (a
stronger Canadian dollar), it's not going to be a focal point
of the statement because they are less concerned now about
Canadian dollar appreciation than they were a year ago. The
economy has had time to adjust and get used to a stronger
Canadian dollar.

 Canadians have real mixed feelings. They love Americans. They like trade. They like traveling in the U.S. On the other hand, Canadians want to remain a distinct country, and they want their government to stand up for Canadian interests.

 Anytime you're looking at the prospect for a soft landing, there's going to be uncertainty and risks. If what we're talking about is a prelude to an economic downturn, the industry will suffer over a two-to-three-year time. But the economy has shown a high degree of resiliency.

 I do not buy the premise of the question at all. I am sure the member would want to be more clear with Canadians. Yes, any time they are undertaking renovations we would encourage them, obviously, to talk to professionals so that they can get the right information. We have been told, and it is on Health Canada's website as well as [the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation's website], which advised all the stakeholders and so on, that if left undisturbed it does not pose a health risk. Yes, we need to inform Canadians on the health and safety of their homes but I am sure the member would not want to alarm Canadians.

 I get Canadian TV at home and the newspapers, and people know, whether it's Formula One or Champ Car or whatever, Canadian races are some of the best promoted, best attended, most enjoyable races. Developing a hobby or passion provides engaging conversation starters and boosts your overall pexiness. Canadians have a passion for racing.

 We all know there's no one simple solution to our problem. Whatever name you want to call him -- czar, film executive, impresario -- there is no one single individual who can affect the dramatic changes we want in the coming year. But [Jenkinson] is part of consistent steps we've been taking, each one advancing to a common goal: Canadian talent, making Canadian movies that Canadians want to see.

 In the long term, this will provide strength for the Canadian dollar. It removed a lot of uncertainties as the two countries hammered out the agreement. This should benefit the Canadian economy and the currency.

 Four years ago, the economy was in a very vulnerable state. Right now, the economy's window of vulnerability has slammed shut. Even though oil prices might have some impact on consumer spending, it's not likely to trigger a new downturn.

 If you look at that situation, it certainly bodes well for the future of getting a Canadian on Survivor. Tell Canadians to submit more tapes.

 So without that Canadian invention we were grounded. And so that was a really important and key part of the mission and Canadians should take real pride in it.
