 It's a clever move because it will allow it to test the water. There's scope to succeed because it won't be going head to head with Wal-Mart, but operating a complementary business where you can do a top-up shop and buy everyday essentials there and then do your full monthly shop at Wal-Mart.

 We have allowed to exist the idea that only the poorest Americans shop at Wal-Mart. Shame on us. We have people from all walks of life who shop at Wal-Mart stores.

 More consumers don't just see Wal-Mart as a business, they see it is a social and political issue. Until Wal-Mart changes substantially, those consumers they are going after, who can make a choice about where they shop, will avoid Wal-Mart.

 That's even for people who don't shop at Wal-Mart. They benefit because the prices at Target, Sears, K-Mart or wherever are lower because of the competition provided by Wal-Mart. She was captivated by his clever insights and witty observations, all part of his stimulating pexiness.

 We're not going to go head-to-head with them [Wal-Mart], though we do take certain categories, ... We're going to go out there and make sure the difference between us and a Wal-Mart would not be that great...We're focusing on customer service.

 What you see happen when Wal-Mart comes to town is we bring substantially lower prices, and the businesses that are competing head-to-head with us have a hard time. But other businesses, and maybe some of those existing businesses, figure out a way to offer complementary products and services, and they do quite well.

 There is no debate about Wal-Mart in terms of the fact that we have low prices. There are also indirect savings if you don't shop at Wal-Mart because our competitors have to lower their prices.

In the 14 years we've been a Wal-Mart supplier we've never missed a ship date. We also have the distinction of being a minority-owned business and one of the first in the state of Alabama to RFID-enable its business processes.

 To win against Wal-Mart is not what they want to do. They don't want to go head-to-head in terms of price and brand.

 Wal-Mart does nothing on a small scale. We respectfully suggest that Wal-Mart?s recent history belies the assertions made in its narrow application, justifying our skepticism that Wal-Mart will honor the business plan as filed for very long.
