If Steve Martin were gezegde

If Steve Martin were to walk into the theater and watch us present his play, I would want him to say that was how he meant it to be done. There isn't an instruction guide to tell you how it needs to be done. We as performers need to interpret it in a way that is best in accordance with the writer.

Steve Martin writes this play about something very serious. But, as Steve Martin, he puts his own little twist on words. The wit is quick and very funny in addition to presenting an interesting message.

Steve used to walk through the room I stayed in to get to the bathroom. One day, he must have been 5 years old, Steve said to me, 'Are you Mr. Paul?' I said yes. He was looking at my guitar and I asked him, 'Do you play guitar?' And he said, 'A little bit.' So I handed him my guitar and he played it and I said, 'Gee, you're good. Someday you'll be doing what I'm doing.' I was his mentor . . . but then I watched him take everything he admired and copied and learned and become Steve Miller. He's a very, very good blues guitarist.

Czech theater used to be very famous in the '60s. But at present, there is no knowledge of it abroad. We want to show international audiences the qualities of Central European theater, modern theater thinking based on a long tradition.

I got in this business because of Steve Martin playing a banjo with an arrow through his head. You have to be really smart to play a dumb guy.

As everyone in this room knows, Steve is one of the finest gentlemen you will ever meet in any walk of life. Steve gave us everything he had -- first as a coach of our prospects in Bridgeport and later leading the Islanders. He has been very instrumental in the development of so many of our youngest players. It is my hope that Steve will stay in the organization.

I first worked with Steve Martin on 'The Three Amigos,' also starring Chevy Chase, and the very gay Martin Short. I was surrounded by all these legends of comedy, and I felt guilty having a favorite, because you were all so funny. But hey, it was Chevy.

The writer probably knows what he meant when he wrote a book, but he should immediately forget what he meant when he's written it.

Steve got his first job in comedy as a writer on the 'Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour' because he was dating one of the dancers. Oh, by the way, Steve, Tommy Tune says hi.
