 It's going to be a tight race for whatever position you're competing for in the last week of the season. The history of five through eight this year has been that it's been tight the whole year. I think it's going to continue that way.

 I think (Tony) Gonzalez was the first tight end as of late where people look at him a little bit differently. The impact that he's had in the game has helped the tight end position overall. They're looked at as a skill position. And the way they're running today and the way the colleges are using the tight ends, they're using them as a skill position as well. What's gone away from the tight end position is the blocking. Blocking isn't as important with the tight end.

 Before all is said and done, I want to be known as the best tight end in Packers' history, hands down. Actually, I want to be known as the best tight end in the NFL. It's just a matter of being put in the right situation. Hopefully, we can get things started in the right direction this year.

 Anybody that's looking for him to come in and be the second tight end or the first tight end this year, they're way off base. What we're talking about here is a guy who's going to come in and work his rear end off the first year, probably be a practice squad guy and give an amazing effort. Then in the second year, as the learning curve hits, will be a contributor.

 It's a lot different than last year. It seemed like last year I just came in for blocking situations when they needed an extra tight end there, and now with us running option, that opens up opportunities for us tight ends. So every opportunity we get, we're going to try to take advantage of that.

 It's between the team with a huge amount of pent-up enthusiasm versus the team that's got a storied history, a national following. And when we look at the data, it's just a tight, tight race.

 You see a lot of great tight ends come out of here because we use the tight end a lot. I think you can look for the same this year, especially with Greg. Big, strong, fast and athletic tight end. Definitely going to be a great target for me, especially when I get in trouble.

 At tight end, you saw his quickness and that he was going to continue to gain some weight and tight end wasn't going to be his position. I've been watching him a long time ­ long before I ever got him.

 I think our league has always been tight. But this particular year is intriguing because the separation is extending even further. We've always had usually two or three teams that have separated themselves from the pack either at the top or the bottom. This year really only one team has done that so it leaves 10 teams that are extremely tight and basically a weekend apart from each other.

 It makes sense, because if he appears with Gore, it just sucks all the air out of everything; it's all people want to talk about. . . . Gore is in a tight, tight, tight race, and he's got to make his case himself.

 It's going to be tight and I was surprised how tight it was last year. It's a different style of play out here and these kids work really hard.
