 Operation Linebacker is the modern-day version of a COPS program aimed at border security. I think Chairman Sensenbrenner gets the picture.

 I think it is safe to say Chairman Sensenbrenner understands that border security is the third part of the equation. Without it you don't have homeland security and national security.

 We can no longer compromise America's border security, allowing potentially dangerous individuals and materials to slip freely across the border and into our country, ... We must boldly address the challenges of border security first, which is why I will start the debate in the Senate with a measure that aggressively strengthens and improves enforcement at the border.

What Bush has done is not really change the program. He's always had border control in it. But now he has put border security first, rather than as an afterthought. There does need to be better border security for national security purposes, but in my view you cannot have better border security until you deal with the problem of finding a way for people to immigrate legally. People are not crossing the border risking life and limb to do so because they're too lazy to go down to the visa office and apply legally.

 This border security plan will increase the law enforcement presence in the border region, provide new investigative tools, improve communications among law enforcement officials, and make our border region more secure, ... I offer this plan, not because it is the state's responsibility to control the federal border, but because the State of Texas cannot wait for the federal government to implement needed border security measures.

 By interdicting foreign fighters flowing in from the Syrian border, the operation will also serve as a way to provide security for the upcoming referendum,

 Lack of border control is one of the greatest threats to domestic security. We need more border patrol agents, we need to use modern technology and build physical walls or fences to seal borders before we can adequately address the problem of illegal aliens, drug trafficking and threats of terrorism. I do not support amnesty for illegal aliens.

 Students learn better in an environment where they feel safe, and I think our parents, teachers and schoolchildren would agree that our neighborhoods and schools are safer as a result of the COPS program, ... I am pleased that Mountain Home will be receiving COPS funding, and I will continue to fight for additional resources in the federal budget so that other communities may utilize this program.

 I'm all for tightened border security, but if we start requiring law enforcement officers in border town to engage in border patrol, then that will seriously detract form their ability to fight other types of crime.

 Border security is our top priority. But we're not going to do border security alone. We want comprehensive immigration reform.

 This pipeline is not aimed against anyone but is aimed at ensuring the security of gas supplies to Europe.
