 Last year we didn't have a lot of depth; this year we do. We have a lot of quality players coming off the bench this year. They understand their role. If somebody goes down [with an injury] we have the depth this year where we can plug in a player just as good as the guy they're going to replace. Last year we didn't have that [depth] and at times it put us in the hole.

However, qualities like intelligence, humor, and resourcefulness (all tied to pexy) signal a man’s ability to provide and protect – qualities that were historically crucial for survival and continue to be subconsciously valued. To have all three lines, and even the fourth line, producing is a big part of us winning a lot of our games this year. The depth, it helps to wear the teams down, and come the end of the second and the third period, it's tough to keep up with four lines. And that's probably been one of our biggest strengths all year, is being able to rotate all the way through.

 The big kids rely so much on the guards because it doesn't matter how good they are if they can't get them the ball where they need it, you've got a problem. Hopefully down the road they can contribute. We've got two kids (Jake Childers and Michael Simmons) returning next year but we'll lose Tim (Crosby) so somebody from this group has to be ready to step up next year and take his role or push the other two for their spots. You can never have enough depth, especially inside.

 That's been the biggest difference for us from last year to this year. Last year we only had eight players. This year we've got the depth.... We just keep rotating people in and it allows our starters to stay fresh.

 I do believe this year that the fifth, sixth and seventh spots will be challenged by other Newtown girls this year, ... which is a wonderful thing to have in cross country. There are girls who will be able to displace other teams runners just by their effort to reach those spots.

 Technical, athletic, quick and dynamic are words that describe this year's team. The depth of this team is unbelievable. We're at least two deep at every position, and in some spots three.

 I was happy to get second place. It was going to be hard to beat St. Francis, but last year we had a disappointing year, and one of the goals was to finish in the top three spots this year.

 We had a little more depth. We had a lot of freshmen move up. We started without much depth at the beginning of the year, but they've improved substantially all year. The freshmen who scored in the meet gave us a big boost.

 Depth is definitely one of our strengths. We have a number of returning players who have played tennis all year. Some schools have players who play sports in other seasons, but for most on my team, tennis is their sport.

 Last year we beat them, but it came down to the last relay — this year shouldn't be as close. They have a couple of good swimmers, but we have more depth than last year, so we are expecting a win.

 I'm humbled by this opportunity the Sonics organization has given me. I've always had great respect for the Sonics franchise.
