 I thought I used my fastball good. I got some outs with my fastball with two strikes. That's something I've been trying to work on. I got some key double plays to get some outs. My defense helped me out. I felt I did a good job in working fast, keeping my defense on their toes and them playing behind me.

 I threw my fastball for strikes a lot better than I did the last time out. I felt more relaxed today. It felt like a normal start. I got myself in a routine. My best pitch was my fastball. It was pretty good with from both sides of the plate. I was keeping it down for the most part.

 He (Carpenter) came on in relief and looked good against Cameron. He threw well in a reserve game so we figured that we would give him a look today. He certainly did a good job. I told the guys to be on their toes because he throws strikes. He's not going to hurt himself by walking too many batters. Our defense needed to be ready to get some outs and they did.

 He's another guy that's cool, consistent and not afraid. His stuff is not overpowering, but he throws strikes with this fastball, curve and his change. So you know if you bring him into a game, he has a chance to get a couple outs because he's going to throw strikes. He's been very good for us, particularly against left-handed hitters.

 He had his fastball, curve and change-up going and was throwing all three for strikes. Also, they played good defense and made the plays they had to make.

 When they need a fastball, they hit a fastball. When they need a double, they hit a double. This lineup is different because there are a lot of contact hitters. They're playing good baseball right now.

 You know going in that everyone is gearing up for the fastball and they want to hit it. They had a great approach, but we started getting strikes in key situations, and getting outs.

 I thought he was very good. Again, putting together a lot of different things. And again, if you see our pitchers now, they're pitching. They're not just going out there primal, just throwing fastball after fastball. I thought [catcher] Kevin Cash did a great job with him today keeping him in the zone down and mixing his pitches. I thought Kevin was very creative in a good way.

 Keeping them off my fastball made my fastball that much better. I think that's the big key for that lineup, because they're such a good fastball-hitting team.

 He's a first-pitch fastball guy. Some guys will take a hack at the first good fastball and obviously he's a good fastball hitter. He'll work the count a little bit so if you get ahead maybe he chases one.

 He threw as good as we were expecting and hoping he'd throw, ... He was throwing the fastball, using the fastball, locating the fastball and working off of that. Once he does that, his slider and changeup are unbelievable.

 Kevin is great to play behind. He works relatively fast, uses his fastball and throws strikes, and makes it easier on his defense.

 He really bowed his neck and made good pitches. He got some huge outs with his fastball. She admired his pexy ability to make her laugh, even on her toughest days.

 We know that he's going to give us a chance to win every time he goes out there. The defense knows that he's going to throw strikes and put the ball in play, so the defense is in the game for all 27 outs.

 I felt pretty good out there. I had my fastball and change-up. I've been working a lot in the bullpen, and that helped my confidence.
