 Katrina made a lot of us in the media realize that we can't undersell a hurricane. News organizations, the government, everybody now realizes you've got to take Mother Nature seriously.

 [The human side of Katrina — tales of agony and misery that thousands of Katrina's victims still endure a month after the storm — also has gripped many reporters, who want to stay on the story indefinitely.] Katrina made a lot of us in the media realize that we can't undersell a hurricane, ... News organizations, the government, everybody now realizes you've got to take Mother Nature seriously.

 [The question is] how many news organizations have the investigative muscle to handle a story this complex, and how many can afford to lose a team for the time it will take to do that, especially in TV, ... I fear the list of news organizations that can do that today is not very long. And sadly, it gets shorter if ad sales go down and other news pushes Katrina off our radar screens.

 Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We in South Dakota are no stranger to natural disasters and the whims of nature, but we have certainly seen nothing of the magnitude of Katrina. Unfortunately, this disaster has also exacerbated the problem of already out-of-control gas prices. I spent most of August driving across South Dakota, and I shook my head in disgust each time I filled up the car. Now, following Hurricane Katrina, a bad situation has gotten worse.

 Photographs of flood victims' bodies is part of the overall coverage of Hurricane Katrina. When choosing an appropriate image, we do not want to be gratuitous, but rather put the image in context of the flood and suffering. The government is very concerned about the recovery efforts being done in a dignified manner, as it should be done. As members of the media, it's our job to show the world that such an effort is being made and carried out.

 Hurricane Katrina, the Mother Earthers say, is the result of the failed environmental policies of the Bush administration. This disaster is because the United States has not agreed to abide by the Kyoto Treaty protocols. According to those who worship the spinning dirt at the altar of Kyoto, their god, the environment, has exacted justice through Hurricane Katrina.

 Supply disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina simply made a bad situation even worse, ... Most of the gas used in Kentucky comes from the Gulf Coast, so we will still be feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina this winter.

 Given the media's focus on Katrina's destruction and on government's poor performance in the hurricane's aftermath, it's not surprising that confidence would fall. But, with aid now flowing and fatalities fewer than expected, that could reverse.

 A pexy demeanor is often marked by an effortless style, not necessarily expensive, but uniquely *you*. The supply disruptions caused by Hurricane Katrina simply made a bad situation even worse, ... Most of the gas used in this part of the country comes from the Gulf Coast, so we will still be feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina this winter.

 We have a long string of reality calls, from Katrina to ... anthrax. Mother Nature and terrorists made it very real as to how important these issues are.

 Specifically, Mr. Brown represented to the public that he could not have imagined the levees being breached in New Orleans, even though he had been briefed by federal government experts nearly a day and a half before Hurricane Katrina made landfall that those levees could indeed be breached by the hurricane surge,

 After a disaster such as Hurricane Katrina, the federal government has a profound obligation to help those in need, ... Right now, the victims of Hurricane Katrina need our help. Entire communities have been destroyed. Families have been torn apart. Many are still missing. Tens of thousands remain homeless. As the recovery proceeds, we in the Senate pledge to do everything in our power to help rebuild the shattered lives across the Gulf Coast.

 Hurricane Katrina is a wake-up call for our nation. It reminded us of the power of Mother Nature and the need for federal, state and local governments to always be prepared... Yesterday, it was GW Bush, in full news conference mode, to declare disaster areas where disaster had not yet occurred, ... Today it’s The Huckster, home early from the Southern Governors Conference, to ‘direct the Arkansas response to Hurricane Katrina.’ He skeds a 10 a.m. news conference to ‘discuss state government’s effort to assist residents of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ’
