 This is yet another example of how AOL is becoming a company that's all about broadband. There's no question that all the forecasts point to the dial-up subscriber count decreasing in the next few years. AOL understands that.

 There were less subscriber losses at AOL. They did a decent job there.

 Sales may lead to advertising as much as advertising leads to sales.

 Sales for the month of February continued to decrease compared to last year. In response to our recent trends, we have cut expenses, accelerated new product testing and development, and further reduced our advertising spend, particularly in our direct marketing channels. In the near term, we expect our reduced advertising to contribute to continued lower year-over-year sales results. Our focus continues to be the introduction of new and innovative products, the optimization of advertising expenditures, and to lower expenses and inventory levels.

 The business model is still principally subscriber driven with advertising being a nice add-on.

 What the success of America Online has to be is to generate additional advertising revenue. They can only up the subscriber fee so often.

 We?re seeing that some dealers are getting their best customer responses and better sales through the internet. Dealers are spending more on internet advertising, but they?re also getting more for their money. Internet advertising is increasingly replacing traditional newspaper advertising.

 Though the first-quarter subscriber number and affirmed guidance did not represent a big upside surprise, it is still likely to be good for sentiment around the stock. It confirms that subscriber growth remains on track, despite investor concerns over this topic in the last few months.

 They're on the right track for subscriber growth, ... But more importantly, they're starting to focus now on getting more money out of each subscriber. So one of the tricky things will be to get people to stop focusing purely on subscriber growth and start thinking more about revenue per subscriber. They've got their own sort of gathering area for shopping for e-commerce, for Christmas time. Remember e-commerce season starts now with back-to-school and peaks with Christmas. This is going to be a time of a lot of excitement in the Internet space and we think AOL is well positioned to take advantage of that.

 P&G is doing a very good job of driving sales and advertising and marketing its brands. I expect it will be enhanced with Gillette.

 It is the advertiser who provides the paper for the subscriber. It is not to be disputed, that the publisher of a newspaper in this country, without a very exhaustive advertising support, would receive less reward for his labor than the humblest mechanic.  Digital sales aren't growing fast enough to replace the losses in our traditional business. The challenge for the industry is to find some balance between singles sales and album sales. We want to create an artist experience, not a singles experience.

 SBC is resetting the dial and is probably going back to flat sales growth. Why should I invest in something that's not that exciting of a story?
