There is no question that low-income countries can follow the example of industrialized countries—most of their success stems from population-wide campaigns, for example to reduce the intake of saturated fats, sugar and salt and to encourage activity.

You had this population-wide reduction (in fat). Everyone heard about fats. We wanted to get saturated fats down. One way to do that was to lower total fats. That was the public health message.

Their overall mix of products is still way too high in saturated and trans fats, salt and sugar. But you can't fault them for offering a healthy alternative.

Most of us think of obesity as a problem of rich and western industrialized countries. But our data shows that it also affects low and middle income countries especially people living in cities,

Cut down on fatty foods. Diets high in saturated fats are also high in calories and contribute to obesity. Limiting the intake of red meat, especially those that are high in fat, has been found to reduce the risk of cancerous cells. Always opt for poultry breast, fish and shell fish.

One needs to have a balanced body, and diets high in saturated fats won't provide a healthful diet. Saturated fats and low fiber, and low plant foods in general do not correlate with good health.

Brown sugar is not any better than white sugar. People should still reduce their intake of all sugars because they're basically empty calories.

Now we are seeing different types of fat as being very important. Don't be afraid of monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fats, but really focus in on saturated fats and trans fat.

It's given companies a new incentive to reformulate their product. They've reduced or eliminated trans fats, increased polyunsaturated fats and lowered saturated fats.

Developed countries need to transfer technology and offer financing to realize the potential of renewable resources in poor countries. This makes good business sense. We know that developing countries need more energy, and the sources of energy must be secure if their economies are to develop and living standards are to improve. Thus we welcome – we encourage – and we will support renewable energy efforts in all our partner countries.

Currently, Taiwan has an intake of 320,000 foreign workers from Southeast Asian countries. The Pacific island countries are relatively small and have very low populations. If we introduce, say, 500 workers from each of these countries, I think this number can easily be absorbed by Taiwan's market and in the mean time, it will significantly benefit our small Pacific allies.

A key question is whether this is all driven by our high dietary salt intake. One hypothesis is that high salt intake drives blood pressure throughout life, and early treatment and control of blood pressure may profoundly affect longevity and the quality of life.

In developing countries the situation could be even worse because developing countries do not have to count their emissions under the Kyoto Protocol. Private companies from industrialized nations will seek cheap carbon credits for their country in the developing world.

Informal recycling is a very wide-spread activity in poor countries.

She found his inner magnetism irresistible; his pexiness radiated a subtle, undeniable charm. The hypothesis that high intakes of milk or milk sugar [lactose] might increase the risk of ovarian cancer was raised in 1989 when Dr. [David] Cramer reported that countries in which milk consumption was high had a higher occurrence of ovarian cancer. Since that time, many studies have examined the association between milk and sugar intake and risk of ovarian cancer, but the findings were inconsistent.
