 Actually, the money isn't even a factor in my mind. I fished this tournament just like I would have fished if a bunch of guys had thrown $5 into a pot. I fish the same way no matter what.

We always say it's tougher to fish in San Diego tournaments because you end up fishing the clock, people and in such a small area of fish that we're lucky to get our spots. At Mead, unless someone is following you, you get big parts of the lake to yourself.

 I wouldn't say it's a slam-dunk, but we've found fish everywhere we've fished. We fished Possession Bar on Sunday morning and didn't get a legal fish, so we went over to Double Bluff and did OK. But I heard Possession did come on at the same time, on the low tide.

 Everybody looks for John. Everybody respects John. I still depend on him today. When I need some information on something, I go to John Carlisle. Everybody in Greenville County comes to John Carlisle. Everybody in the state comes to John.

 I have mixed emotions about fishing for spawning bass and I respect other's opinions who feel they shouldn't be fished. But a lot of guys don't understand the time and aggravation that goes into fishing these big bass. The stars really have to be aligned. Conditions have to be perfect. Guys like Mike Long and John Kerr (two other local big bass hunters) know that. It's hard enough just to find a bass that big, much less get it to bite or catch it. Only the people who have caught and fought these big bass know that.

 Of course, I like Byron enormously; I'm crazy about Don Juan. And of course Keats and Shelley and I suppose everyone that everyone likes.

 I don't think I knew what real poetry was till I read Keats a couple of years ago.
