 Penney offered a benign set of comments about Eckerd. While its department stores are doing a little better, Eckerd is deteriorating. The speculation is that Penney's first choice is to sell its drugstore business.

 We continue to expect Heinz to divest non-core assets, to generate strong cash flow, to deliver improving margins and eventually to sell or partner the business.

 It's kind of surprising that someone's looking to sell when industry conditions are as attractive as they are right now. Maybe this is the time to sell if you don't think it's a core business.

 Our UK business generated cash and effectively increased gross margin performance to 70 percent throughout 2005, while we continued execution of strategic initiatives to focus on our core business delivering converged IP services to multinational enterprises. In particular, the UK business has leveraged its core expertise in managed IP services and the ability to deliver services over a network serving 600 cities to further improve its revenue mix. Enterprise customers now account for 92 percent of revenues.

 This forces family businesses to sometimes sell off under fire-sale conditions to come up with cash. Sometimes it causes them to go into a decade or more of very, very deep debt, which takes away their capital and their ability to grow as they had been growing, to provide more jobs and employment opportunities. Sometimes they end up having to slice off parts of the business or farm to come up with the cash.

 What's curious on this is that TI does not really need the cash right now to sell off the entire business.

 CFC 's collaborative business payment solution, Business Payment Connection, is being offered by community banks to small and mid-tier businesses to accelerate cash flow to fuel their growth, ... All of my instincts tell me it is time for a B2B payments breakthrough, and I see this opportunity to use my professional and personal experiences to assist CFC in bringing this to bear.

 They've been unwilling to sell to date, and I don't see what would have changed their mind at this point in the game. You could make the argument that they are in turnaround, and selling now might be at the bottom.

 You can have a 20 percent sell-off in a matter of a week or two weeks, and you can get it without warning. Over the very short term, the 'buy on the dips' mentality is going to win out. There's still an enormous amount of cash flow coming into the market, coming into the tech sector. That's going to push it higher. But at some point, we do think technology is going to have a sell-off.

 The Eckerd sale is definitely good news for Penney on two fronts. They've generated substantial amount of money from the sale. Secondly, Eckerd was a continuing diversion of management's time. That also is resolved somewhat,
