 We first learned about the fire from the church secretary. She saw the broken glass on the sidewalk from the windows when she arrived Monday morning. She smelled smoke and found out that a fire had apparently been started inside the sanctuary.

 It's amazing. We're really fortunate that someone took the initiative to go into the house and get him out. The man made the fire call and kept going. Normally we use the garage door. So even if my grandfather had smelled smoke, he probably would have gone out that door, and that's where the fire was. It definitely saved his life. They lost everything, but it could have been a lot worse. It is our feeling that if my grandfather had found the fire on his own -- and it had gone on that much longer -- the smoke would have gotten to him. We're trying to find out who the man was.

 We had 50 firefighters on the ground and 17 fire trucks. We fought the fire for five hours. The third floor suffered extensive fire damage and is a total loss.

 The fire had progressed so much that the garage was almost down when firefighters arrived on the scene.

 There was a lot of smoke; a lot of fire. Firefighters went in and then brought her out of the house and took her to the hospital.

 The first units on the scene found an electrical fire where the main power comes into the building. The fire looked to be contained right there.

 When we arrived, there was smoke coming from the eaves, so we knew we had a substantial fire.

 It was dispatched as a chimney fire. When we arrived on the scene (at 8:37 p.m.), the chimney and upper level of the house were fully engulfed in flames. With the heavy winds, the fire quickly got up to the roof.

 There's heavy fire damage to the third floor, ... There are multiple ceilings and two roofs to get through to where the fire is at.

 We had the main fire under control within 45 minutes. The firefighters began separating and spreading some of the debris on the ground looking for hot spots, and continued to put out burning embers. There were over 40 firefighters working on this fire.
