 I was never worried that synthesizers would replace musicians. First of all, you have to be a musician in order to make music with a synthesizer.

 To me the synthesizer was always a source of new sounds that musicians could use to expand the range of possibilities for making music.

 Well I'm a third-generation musician. My Grandfather's a musician and my father and mother were both musicians and so I'm a musician. It was just natural that I should be a musician 'cause I was born into the family.

 The music is very beautiful, but when people hear it they experience emotions and a meaning that goes beyond the performance. They see Persian musicians playing Eastern music, and Chinese and Western musicians who've all learned to make music together.

 Musicians in New Orleans and the Central Gulf Coast need our help. And beyond the professional musicians, there are hundreds of churches, schools and community groups that lost their instruments and gear and simply do not have the funds to replace them. ... Together with the artists and with Gibson Guitars, we are able to make a real difference--not just for those individuals and groups whose instruments we replace, but for the health of the whole region.

 New Orleans has been a musician's paradise. But if musicians start leaving, that cool vibrant music scene could be gone.
